Guidance in Speech

A Prayer for God's Guidance in My Words

    Father,
I come to You in the name of my Lord Jesus Christ. You said, “If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.” You also said, “No human being can tame the tongue.” So I pray today that my tongue would be under the control of the Holy Spirit. Please enable me to “be quick to hear, slow to speak” and “slow to anger.” May no “corrupting talk” come out of my mouth, but only speech that “is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” Help me to speak the truth in love today, and to grow in Christlikeness. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

    Amen.
