Job Title: Communications Designer (Posted on October 6, 2020)

Reports to: Creative Communications Director

Summary: The Communications Designer at River Oaks is a natural collaborator who serves pastors and ministry leaders by helping them effectively communicate their message to varying audiences through diverse channels. They possess the technical skill to create stunning visual content as well as the organizational skill to take projects from concept to completion.

Primary Ministry Responsibilities

  • Create PowerPoint presentations under the direction of pastoral staff for Sunday sermons
  • Write, design, and send visually appealing and engaging email correspondence
  • Write, design, and print clean and organized in-service bulletin handouts
  • Create thoughtful and meaningful content for River Oaks social media pages
  • Assist with social media strategy development
  • Make frequent updates to the church website
  • Design, layout, copy edit, and publish a wide array of church publications
  • Bring an active aesthetic to the River Oaks creative team
  • Participate in the creative development of look and feel in the Sanctuary
  • Create graphic assets for Sunday services


Additional Administrative Responsibilities

  • Manage response and forwarding of messaging on social media platforms
  • Facilitate communications requests from ministry departments
  • Assist with daily operations of the church. This includes, but is not limited to, answering the main church telephone line when needed and helping with congregational mailings.
  • As needed, assist other staff members in fulfilling the mission of the church

  • B.A. in Graphic Design, Communications, or related field or equivalent professional experience
  • Relevant digital portfolio
  • Contribute to the team spirit of the staff through fellowship, encouragement, cooperation, and prayer. A servant’s heart is a must.
  • Be in agreement with the mission, vision, values, and essentials beliefs of River Oaks and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (http://epc.org/about-the-epc/beliefs)
  • Pursue an ever-deepening relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer, personal Bible study, and regular worship attendance
