Job Title: Middle School Ministry Director (Posted on 08-21-2024)

Overview:

The Middle School Ministry Director will work with the River Oaks Youth Pastor and partner with parents to enable youth to grow into mature disciples of Jesus Christ. This person will help oversee our Sunday evening ministry (ROCC Youth) to all students while focusing mostly on our middle school ministry. They will share in the responsibility of helping the youth of the church grow into mature disciples of Jesus Christ through weekly Bible studies, mission trips, camps, and occasional connection/outreach events.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Share in the responsibility of teaching the timeless truth of God’s Word to the students with a primary focus on middle schoolers. This would include everything from teaching to a large group on Sunday evenings to leading a mid-week Bible study or a small group.
  • Oversee the Sunday School Ministry and NextStep class (confirmation class for 6th graders); recruit, equip, and encourage the volunteer leaders who teach Sunday School and ensure that this ministry is aligned with the overall vision of the youth ministry.
  • Assist the Youth Pastor with planning mission trips, camps, retreats, and one-time events. This would include tasks like developing a budget, scheduling events, managing a calendar, developing promotional materials, and overseeing cabin assignments.
  • Prioritize one-on-one relationship with students and volunteers for the purpose of encouragement and helping them grow in their faith.
  • Help ensure first-time visiting students have a great experience. Create “in-roads” for students to become better connected at River Oaks by pairing them up with leaders and peers who would take them under their wing and help them feel loved and connected.
  • Assist with pastoral counseling and help shepherd students and their families through any crises that might arise.
  • Maintain a strong presence in schools and student’s extracurricular events/activities.
  • Help volunteer leaders become shepherds by providing small group questions, teaching material and other resources and build a great relationship with them as your team.
  • Assist in the planning and leadership of team meetings.
  • On occasion, assist with event planning for church-wide events.
  • Maintain a 40-hour work week. This includes maintain a set schedule of office hours and a flexible set of ministry hours. Ministry to youth requires atypical work hours and it’s encouraged to be present for student’s games, plays, school lunches, and be available for weekend retreats and evening Bible studies.

General Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate an ever-deepening personal relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer, Bible study, and worship attendance.
  • Be able to think strategically, provide direction, accept direction, and take projects from concept to completion.
  • Be optimistic in the face of difficulty. View adversity not as a problem but as an unsolved opportunity.
  • Be industrious, hard working, and diligent. The right person will be relationship-minded and results-oriented.
  • Be easily dissatisfied with the status quo but respond with grace when the answer is “no.” Be able to separate your ideas from your identity.
  • Develop a budget and work within those guidelines while establishing goals and implementing strategies for their attainment.
  • Contribute to the team spirit of the staff through fellowship, encouragement, cooperation, and prayer. Humility, work ethic, and a servant’s heart are a must.
  • Be supportive of and participate in the regular church programs and activities.
  • Be able to address conflict using the biblical model laid out in Matthew 18.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Youth ministry experience
  • A proven track record of effective leadership and collaborating with others to accomplish exceptional results
  • Effectiveness as a public speaker/teacher
  • Experience in graphic design, video editing, and visuals for teaching aids is a plus
  • A degree in Biblical Studies is preferred
