The Bible is one book—one amazing work of literature —historical, theological, and anthropological. It is the one story of redemption. In part one, we begin
in the beginning. The books of the Law and History help lay the foundation for the story. We will notice the continuous narrative of God’s people as the story advances each week. In doing so, we will begin to see the many Old Testament shadows of the One who is the substance in God’s grand plan of redemption—Jesus—the Christ, Messiah, and Savior, the One who is central to the entirety of this one story. We live in a busy culture and often fall into the trap of living a hurried lifestyle. This "hurried sickness" can be detrimental to our spiritual and emotional health.
In 2019/2020 we are exploring the Christian seasons (Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost) under the title House of Shadows. Our focus is on discovering Jesus in the Old Testament. In reference to the Old Testament Law, the Apostle Paul wrote to the church at Colossae: "These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ." We begin this journey with the Season of Advent and the “Shadows of One to Come” sermon series.
