Series: UNITED
United for a Purpose
August 29, 2021 | Andrew Wild
This worship service includes music, prayer, and a sermon by Pastor Andrew Wild titled "United for a Purpose." Note from Pastor Andrew: I’m grateful for a sister in Christ who took the time to reach out following my August 29 sermon and point out how I inadvertently conveyed a message I was not intending to send. I’m so appreciative of the modern technology that allows us to remain united in worship when some prefer online and others in-person. Towards the end of this message, I caution against privatizing the Christian faith. I wish I had the opportunity to go back in time and chose different words. I didn’t mean to insinuate that everyone should be worshipping in-person. My comments were meant to caution against a “me and Jesus mindset,” or watching a RightNow Media series or a famous preacher on television and substituting that for connection with a church. Even when COVID is behind us, there are some in congregation who will need to worship online on Sunday mornings for a variety of reasons. The challenge is to pursue connection with our brothers and sisters in Christ. Said differently, we might have a personal relationship with Jesus, but we don’t have a private relationship with Jesus. My thoughts around engagement are couched in the recognition that we are still in the middle of a pandemic and are prefaced with “when this whole thing blows over…” I’m thankful someone was willing to live out the command to “exhort one another” (Heb 3:13) and the opportunity this has afforded me to bring clarity where I invited confusion.
